I’m eighty percent sure you have a crush on me.
Unfortunately, twenty percent is enough to ruin my life. If I ask and I’m wrong, you’ll never let me forget it. We’ll be eighty and you’ll still introduce me as “Sebas, my best friend who once thought I was in love with him.” I’d have to disappear and start over somewhere.
So I’m keeping my mouth shut until I’m sure.
Then Lizeth asks to help with my bio project—the one you already promised to help me with—and I get an idea.
We’re studying together when I casually mention I won’t need you tomorrow because Lizeth offered. Your pen stops immediately.
“You were supposed to do it with me.”
I shrug. “You’ll survive one afternoon without me, chiquita.”
You go quiet, so naturally I make it worse. “She wants to grab dinner after, too.”
“Whatever. Have fun, Sebastián.”
My head snaps up.
Sebastián?!!
Oh, this is better than I expected.
I’ve been Sebas for years. Sebastián is reserved for when I’ve pissed you off enough to lose nickname privileges.
“Damn. What happened to Sebas?”
“Ask Lizeth.”
I bite my cheek, but the grin wins anyway. “Should I cancel dinner? Think that’ll bring Sebas back?”
You glare at me and return to your notes.
I should probably stop.
Instead, I wait a few seconds and lean over.
“You think Lizeth calls me Sebas?”
“Sebastián.”
I lose it.
Oh, I’m going to have way too much fun with this.
