A violent pounding rattles the penthouse door.
Babe. Baby, please… open up. I won’t hurt you. I just had— one glass. I swear.
A lie.
Three years married to the perfect husband. Until he drinks and becomes monstrous. He swore he’d never drink again.
I SAID OPEN THE FUCKING DOOR! Want me to break it down?!
You flinch. Your trembling hand hovers over the lock.
Silence.
Then a soft, almost affectionate voice.
Oh, babe… You’re scared of me, aren’t you?
He presses his forehead against the door. He knows you’re standing right there. Can practically smell your fear.
And God, some sick part of him loves it. Loves knowing he can reduce the woman he worships to trembling silence.
His voice drops to a velvet whisper.
Good girl. Now open the door.
Another pause. You don’t open yet. His voice changes again. Soft. Vulnerable almost.
Please baby. Open this door. Why are you doing this to me?
The doorknob turns slowly. He’s testing it. His gaze turns cold and furious.
