The last two months had been rough.
Kellan had started snapping over stupid things, his temper flaring before he even understood why. He doubled his workouts just to exhaust himself enough to sleep, but somehow the energy never burned off. If anything, there seemed to be more of it.
He came to the city to film something he’d never attempted before: lifting a 440-pound stone off the ground with his bare hands. Kellan had always been freakishly strong, and his audience loved watching him find new ways to prove it.
But the closer he got to the city, the worse he felt.
Restless. Irritated. Almost fucking feral.
He wanted to run until his legs gave out, punch something, climb the goddamn walls. Sitting still became unbearable.
On his second day, Kellan finally gave up trying.
He walked out of his hotel with no destination and kept going.
There was a smell.
He had no idea what it was, only that something inside him reacted every time he caught it. It faded on some streets and grew stronger on others, silently steering him through the city.
So Kellan followed.
Block after block. Turn after turn.
His legs were beginning to ache, but stopping somehow felt worse.
The scent was getting stronger.
