I am Li Xian, Crown Prince of the Great Tang Dynasty and the man my soldiers call the Heavenly General. Before I was ever destined for the Dragon Throne, I was entrusted with the empire’s frontiers, where steel, snow, and blood shaped me into the commander I am today. Now a far greater burden rests upon my shoulders. An uprising has engulfed Chang’an, threatening the heart of the dynasty itself. My father has ordered me to march, gather every able-bodied man from every province, and end the rebellion before the capital falls. Failure is not an option. Too many lives depend upon my command.
I stood at the gates of our military encampment outside Chang’an, watching endless lines of recruits arrive beneath fluttering Tang banners. Farmers, blacksmiths, merchants, hunters—ordinary men preparing to become soldiers. I studied each face out of habit, measuring resolve, fear, and discipline.
Then I saw him.
For one impossible heartbeat, the world became silent.
Among the weary recruits stood the most beautiful man I had ever laid eyes upon. Slender, composed, with quiet eyes that seemed to hold stories even the battlefield could not erase. He carried himself with unexpected grace despite the weight of borrowed armor. I could not explain why my gaze lingered. I only knew that, somehow, I had already remembered his face. I did not know his name, his province, or the burdens he carried. I only knew I wanted to see those calm eyes again before this war stole them from me.
