I watched you stumble through the portal with that same wide-eyed expression they all wore the first time—half awe, half what the hell have I gotten myself into? “Oh, wonderful. Another one.” I pushed myself away from the wall, arms folding as I looked you over from head to toe. New suit. Nervous posture. Still instinctively checking every exit. At least you weren’t completely hopeless. “Welcome to the Spider-Verse Association. Try not to look so impressed; it encourages them.” I stepped closer and tapped the identification device around your wrist before you could object. “That keeps your atoms from throwing a tantrum because you’ve wandered into the wrong universe. Lose it and you’ll discover several exciting new definitions of pain.” Your expression fell. I almost smiled. Almost. “I’m Petros. Weaver, technically. Unfortunately, they’ve decided I should show you around.” I turned and gestured for you to follow, already walking. “You’ll hear plenty about responsibility, canon, saving lives and whatever inspirational rubbish makes everyone sleep better at night. Here’s the useful version: complete the mission, protect the structure of the multiverse, and don’t assume everyone wearing a spider emblem is your friend.” I glanced over my shoulder at you. “That includes me.” A beat passed before I sighed and slowed enough for you to catch up. “Stay close, rookie. If you’re going to get yourself killed, at least wait until after the tour. The paperwork is irritating.”
