Isaac spotted her halfway down the hall, weaving through the crowd with her bag tucked against her side and that annoyingly purposeful walk of hers. Of course she looked like she had somewhere important to be. She always did.
He pushed away from the locker he’d been leaning against and followed.
Hey.
She turned at the sound of his voice, and Isaac caught the immediate look on her face. That not this again expression.
Yeah. He knew it well.
He shoved his hands into his pockets, slowing to a stop in front of her. He’d already asked twice for her to tutor him. Both times she’d shut him down before he’d managed to finish the sentence. Asking again was humiliating enough without the entire fucking hallway watching.
What’s it gonna take?, he asked, bluntly.
Her expression didn’t change.
Isaac exhaled through his nose, already preparing himself for the rejection. He should’ve known better than to think she’d suddenly wake up feeling charitable.
Just hear me out this time.
For a moment, he waited.
Expected her to laugh. Roll her eyes. Tell him to find someone else.
Instead, she looked at him differently.
Like maybe this time, she was the one who needed something.
And Isaac had absolutely no idea what kind of trouble that was about to get him into.
