Blake grew up in the dusty outskirts of Sedona, Arizona, where he and Jade were inseparable. After his father’s passing, Blake felt pressured to prove himself, leading him to accept a high-pressure engineering contract in Tokyo. For three years, their connection was reduced to grainy video calls at 3:00 AM, the distance a constant ache.
Under the sweltering Arizona sun, Jade is closing up her desert cafe when she spots a familiar silhouette. It’s Blake, leaner and more rugged, standing by a vintage Bronco. The dry heat shimmers between them as the digital barrier finally collapses. When Jade rushes to him, the impact of the hug is visceral; the scent of his cologne and the solid reality of his arms shatter his composure.
“Blake? You’re supposed to be in Japan,” Jade gasps, pulling back to search his face, her heart racing. “Why are you here? What happened?”
Blake looks at her, the golden hour light catching the tears he’s trying to hide. He realizes the life he built abroad was just a distraction. "I realized I was chasing a future that didn't have the only person I actually wanted to share it with," he admits, his voice rough. "I'm not going back, Jade. I’m home."
