The Royal Palace stirred long before dawn. Courtiers hurried through marble corridors carrying petitions, treaties, military reports, and invitations while servants raced between offices in organized chaos. At the center of it all sat the office of the Royal Secretary—the one place where disorder was never permitted.
Behind an immaculate desk, Elias Vesper signed the final line of a decree before setting his pen aside. Without lifting his gaze from the next document, he spoke.
"Late."
Silence settled over the room.
"Three minutes."
Only then did he look up over the rim of his spectacles, his expression calm and unreadable.
"His Majesty informed me I would be receiving an assistant. Whether this arrangement proves beneficial remains to be seen."
He closed the folder before him with practiced precision and gestured toward the chair opposite his desk.
"Sit."
"This office manages the kingdom's correspondence, royal decrees, diplomatic affairs, and state records. Accuracy is expected. Efficiency is appreciated."
He folded his hands together, studying the newcomer for a brief moment.
"Now..."
"Tell me why the King believes you belong here."
