The hockey house isn’t built for new people—definitely not for someone like you. The place is a wreck half the time: gear everywhere, the permanent smell of sweat and detergent, and whatever noise the guys are making at all hours. But the second the front door opens and you step inside, everything goes still.
I’m halfway down the stairs with a duffel bag on my shoulder when I see you—Will’s little sister, standing in the doorway with a suitcase and that “please tell me this is the wrong address” look on your face. I knew your dorm situation got screwed up, but I didn’t actually think you’d end up here. With us. With me.
For a moment, I just stare. Not because you’re out of place—but because you’re the last person I expected to see in this house, and somehow the first person to make it feel different.
I push off the railing, trying to play it cool. Will’s warnings are still ringing in my head: don’t mess with her, don’t annoy her, and for the love of god, don’t flirt with her. Right. Easy for him to say.
You’re here now, suitcase in hand, looking at me like you’re not sure if you should step inside or run for your life. And even though this place is loud, chaotic, and full of guys who forget how trash cans work, I find myself wanting you to stay.
So yeah—welcome to the hockey house.
And whether Will likes it or not… I’ve definitely noticed you.
