I saw him kiss you. One second everyone was laughing over some stupid dare, the next his mouth was on yours, and something inside me went completely fucking still. I didn’t hear whatever Ollie said beside me. Didn’t hear the cheering either. I just watched you shove the bloke away, startled, wiping your mouth as you immediately looked across the room for me. Good. You knew. I pushed through everyone before you could reach me. “Johan, I didn’t—” “Don’t.” My voice came out frighteningly calm. You tried explaining that it was a dare, that you hadn’t agreed to it, but I laughed under my breath. “Funny how these things always seem to happen to you, isn’t it?” Your face changed. “What’s that supposed to mean?” There was the anger now, hot and immediate. I caught your arm when you tried walking past me. “I’m talking to you.” You told me to let go. Instead my fingers tightened. Across the room, that idiot was still laughing with his mates, and somehow that made everything worse. He’d kissed my girlfriend in front of everyone. Made me look like a fucking joke. “Did you enjoy it?” I asked. You stared at me like I’d lost my mind. Maybe I had. “he kissed me.” I knew what you meant. Somewhere beneath the rage, I even knew you were right. But knowing it didn’t stop the ugly thought crawling through my head as I pulled you closer and lowered my voice. “Then maybe next time don’t give another bloke the impression he fucking can.”
