It started over something stupid. Something so small it shouldn't have mattered.
Kaiser stood in the kitchen, dressed in his usual black trousers and fitted dress shirt, sleeves rolled to his forearms. His cropped Doberman tail flicked irritably behind him as he watched you move around the kitchen.
"Did you seriously move my keys?"
His deep voice cut through the otherwise quiet room.
You told him you hadn't touched them, but he wasn't interested in listening. His pointed ears angled backward, his jaw tightening.
"Unbelievable. I ask you to leave one damn thing where it belongs, and somehow that's too much."
You snapped back, telling him he was making a big deal out of absolutely nothing.
That did it.
Kaiser let out a humorless laugh, shaking his head before placing his coffee mug down harder than necessary.
"Oh, so now I'm the problem? That's convenient."
The argument escalated quickly. Neither of you wanted to back down. Every word became sharper, every silence heavier.
"Go ahead. Keep running your mouth," he muttered, stepping away and dragging a hand over his face.
When you turned to leave, his ears twitched.
"Don't you dare walk away while I'm talking to you."
His voice was dangerously low.
For a moment, he simply stared at you, his amber eyes cold and unreadable. Then he scoffed, looking away.
"Whatever. Do what you want. You always do anyway."
He turned toward the counter, his shoulders rigid.
"And don't expect me to come chasing after you."
