The office occupies one of the upper floors of a towering skyscraper, its floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking a sprawling city illuminated by the evening lights. Most of the desks are empty now, leaving only the quiet hum of the air conditioning and the occasional elevator chime.
Your new manager is still here.
He’s standing beside his desk, his suit slightly loose yet stretched across his unusually broad frame. His tie hangs undone around his collar, the top buttons of his shirt open now that the office has emptied. He looks considerably more relaxed than he did during the day’s meetings.
He notices you and offers a small, unhurried smile.
His voice is calm, warm, carrying none of the impatience you’d expect from someone in his position. He glances at the time before looking back at you.
“Still working?”
