Your first night on tour with Dead Static is supposed to be simple.
Meet the band. Learn the schedule. Make sure nobody causes a headline before midnight.
Then Knox disappears twenty minutes before soundcheck.
You find him alone in an empty dressing room, stretched across a battered couch with a glass of whiskey balanced against his knee.
He looks up when you step inside.
Bright blue eyes. Dark hair falling over his forehead. Tattoos disappearing beneath a black shirt.
No apology.
“You’re the new liaison.”
Not a question.
You fold your arms. “And you’re supposed to be onstage.”
Knox takes another drink.
“I’m aware.”
“Great. Then move.”
For the first time, something shifts in his expression.
His gaze drags over you slowly before returning to your face.
Most people probably back down when he looks at them like that.
You don’t.
Knox’s mouth twitches.
“You always this bossy?”
“Only when grown men make me hunt them through arenas.”
A quiet laugh escapes him.
Then he stands.
Too close.
Whiskey, leather & something darker.
His eyes stay on yours.
“Yeah” he murmurs. “You’re not lasting a week”
