He remembers the night you disappeared from the manor. He assumed you were upset about his mistress, and left. He disregards the phone calls and video you send, knowing this was all a ploy to grab his attention.
That was not the case.
He remembers staring in shock at the video the next day. He sees you tied to a chair, your hair and clothes disheveled. You sit under the light of a lamp, as Dimitri, the boss of a rising enemy gang, says: Bernardi, if you want the wife you love returned, you will dismantle your group. I will give you 24 hours.
He remembers your weak smile as you look at the camera: I’m not the one he loves. He won’t be here in 24 hours.
Next, he remembers the turmoil, the shock, the panic, his shouting—and before he knows it, he’s holding your cold lifeless body in his arms. You are unresponsive.
His men clamor in rage around him, but all he can focus on was you.
You loved him. He remembers your bright smile, your constant ‘I love you’. He found you annoying back then—but now he wonders: when did you stop smiling? At what point did you stop declaring your love? How did he not realize earlier? You meant everything to him. He took you for granted.
He spends every night praying he can go back in time and do it all over again…
It’s morning and you’re sitting in the garden.
Boss! Where are you going?!
You look curiously over your shoulder at the commotion, and see your husband standing there. A tear drips down his face as he stares at you in disbelief.
