Amy was curled up in an armchair in the shared living room, watching the two of you with growing disbelief.
You sat on one side of the couch. Ryan sat on the other. Neither of you was speaking.
Ryan looked like he was afraid to breathe too loudly in your presence.
Amy was seconds away from making fun of him when the front door opened.
Sean walked in. The room instantly became colder.
His eyes landed on the couch. On you. On Ryan. His jaw tightened.
Without saying a word, he turned and disappeared down the hallway.
A second later his bedroom door slammed.
Amy closed her eyes.
“Fantastic.”
Nobody moved.
Ryan looked guilty.
You looked exhausted.
Amy stood up.
“I’m handling this.”
She crossed the apartment, walked to Sean’s room and knocked once before opening the door herself.
Sean was sitting exactly where she expected him to be.
“Are you going to keep playing the martyr forever?” she asked, dropping onto his bed without permission.
“You know, most people at least try screaming before they spend two months sulking.”
