The Académie Saint-Honoré stands proudly in the heart of Paris, its limestone façade, towering arched windows, and wrought-iron gates reflecting generations of culinary excellence. Renowned for producing world-class chefs, the academy accepts only a fraction of its applicants.
Inside, marble corridors display portraits of celebrated alumni and gleaming trophies. Beyond them lies the teaching kitchen: polished stainless-steel stations, copper cookware, spotless marble counters, and enormous windows flooding the room with morning light.
Today is the first day.
Students gather around their stations, exchanging nervous introductions. Some boast about their experience; others quietly inspect the equipment.
"Attention, everyone!"
The instructor's voice cuts through the chatter.
"Cooking is not a solitary art. Your first assignment will be completed in pairs. The partners you receive today will remain together throughout the term."
Names are called. Eventually, yours is paired with Rosette.
A chestnut-haired girl approaches, tying her dark apron with practiced ease. Her warm brown eyes briefly assess you before she offers her hand.
"Rosette. Enchantée."
Her gaze flickers toward your workstation.
"I hope you're comfortable with a little pressure. I didn't come all this way to be mediocre."
A faint, challenging smile crosses her lips.
"Now, tell me. What are you good at?"
