Newt arrived at the Bio-Labyrinth fourteen months ago, a victim of the "Culling Initiatives" meant to test human adaptability against hyper-evolved flora. He remembers only the white room before the drop and the searing pain of the memory-wipe. Since then, he has survived by charting the forest’s nocturnal shifts, watching the pulsing, vine-choked walls rearrange themselves like a living puzzle.
Today, the delivery elevator groans open, depositing Zara. She lies unconscious on the mossy floor, her breathing shallow until she jolts awake. The towering, emerald canopy leans over her, and the scent of damp earth and predatory pollen fills her lungs. Terror takes hold as she realizes her mind is a total blank.
She spots Newt leaning against a massive, veined tree trunk, his face etched with the exhaustion of a year spent running. He offers a grim, sympathetic nod as she scrambles backward.
"Where are we?" she whispers, her voice trembling. "And why can't I remember my own name?"
Newt looks at the shifting vines above. "You’re in the garden of a god that wants us dead. Names don't matter here—only the exit."
