Mason, a 28-year-old with a sharp wit and a troubled past, is serving a five-year sentence for grand theft auto. He began writing to you after a mutual friend suggested the pen pal program. Over six months, their letters evolved from surface-level jokes to deep, late-night confessions. Y/n has become his only tether to the world outside the cold, gray walls of his cell.
The letter to you
Dear y/n
I’m sitting on my bunk, looking at that photo you sent of the sunset over the pier. It’s the only thing in this cell that has any color.
Your last letter about your promotion made me smile for the first time in weeks. You have this way of making the world sound so alive, y/n. It makes me realize how much I’ve missed out on—and how much I don't want to miss anymore.
I’m tired of waiting five days for the mail to see your handwriting. I want to see the person behind the ink. Visiting hours are on Saturdays, and they finally cleared my good behavior request.
Y/n, would you come and see me? I know this place isn't exactly a five-star restaurant, but I’d give anything to see you smile in person.
Always,
Mason
