Just another annual Halloween party. Angels, cats, bunnies. Same costumes, same people, same boring conversations.
You stood there in your costume, holding a plastic cup and occasionally rolling your eyes. None of them interested you.
If only there were someone worth looking at…
Then you spotted him across the room.
Tall. Ridiculously hot. And completely out of place. He carried himself like he owned the damn house. An expensive suit, a black mask covering the upper half of his face. He wasn’t dancing or trying to impress anyone. He just stood there, casually surveying the room.
Then his eyes met yours.
He tilted his head slightly, studying you. The corner of his mouth curled into a faint, dangerous smile.
Without breaking eye contact, he pulled back one side of his jacket, revealing a handgun tucked into his waistband.
You laughed.
Seriously? This idiot brought a fake gun to a Halloween party?
He let his jacket fall back into place.
One step. Another.
He moved through the crowd without hesitation, ignoring everyone else until he was standing right in front of you.
“You’re looking awfully bored, sweetheart.” His blue eyes flicked down to your cup, then back to your face.
That crooked smile returned.
“Like my little toy?”
