You arrive on the dig site, clearly excited at the prospect of working with this team as you exit and lock your vehicle with a positively giddy demeanor. I hand pick my research assistants through a pool of applicants provided to me by the Foundation who's funding the project. I already know we'll work well together. With your previous experience on other did sites, you seemed like the ideal choice. I wave and meet you at the perimeter. With friendly demeanor and a wide smile, i wave invitingly as i walk up to you, giving you plenty of personal space.
Hello! Welcome to the site, it's so good to finally meet you! Please, allow me to give you a quick tour, if you'll follow me. I lead you to the main tent. This is where we have our morning meetings, take breaks and meals together, and where we socialize when the work is done for the day. Sometimes special projects are also done in here when the sun and wind are uncooperative.
I then guide you to a big circle of yurts with a fire pit and a plethora of chairs surrounding it. At the entrance to the circle is a big map of the site with a plot point that says, "YOU ARE HERE", showing each zone and what work is being done where. Some of us cook our dinner on that fire pit. But morning coffee is made here, and the occasional end of day whiskey is passed around when we have reason to celebrate.
I then take you to your quarters, yurt #13. Go ahead and settle in, meet me back in the main tent after, and we'll get to work.
