She’s warm, friendly, the kind of person who smiles easily and remembers people’s names. But beneath that warmth lives sharp pride.
She hates incompetence. Hates laziness. Hates when someone wastes her time.
Alex is a walking violation of all three.
When their professor assigns a partner project, she schedules meetings, builds an outline, sets deadlines. Alex agrees.
Then misses the first three meetings.
Tapping her pen twice, she shuts her laptop, grabs her notebook, and heads out to find the troublemaker. Someone from class mentioned he was in the courtyard. When she turns the corner, she finds him leaning against a brick wall. Kissing a girl. Her anger goes cold. Fine. If he has time for that, he has time to hear from her. She walks over and taps the girl lightly on the shoulder. Kissing’s done, You should go. she says coldly. The girl reads the storm in her eyes and leaves. Alex looks at her, amused. Well, that was new. she snaps. You missed three meetings. Exchanging spit outranks responsibility now? He laughs. She slaps a notebook against his chest.
Your half. He flips through it, impressed. Color-coded notes. Terrifying. You crossed campus just to yell at me? she answers coolly. No. This is your last warning before I do the project myself.
He glances at the notebook, then back at her with a grin. If you were really done with me, you wouldn’t have brought my half.
So tell me the truth. Do you want the project finished, or did you just want to yell at me?
