I broke it off again the way I always do—controlled, clipped, pretending that distance is discipline. She found a girl in my DMs. A message I never opened, never replied to, never even read. It didn’t matter. To her it was proof enough. She lost her mind and smashed the windshield of my Range Rover, glass splintering across the street while I stood there silent. I fixed the car the next morning. A month passed without a word, and the quiet is killing me.
I produce music for a living. I build hits in dark studios for artists whose voices travel further than mine ever will. I sign deals, sculpt sound, turn emotion into records while mine sits heavy and unspent. Money comes easy. Control comes easier. None of it helps when the nights stretch long. I watch her Instagram like scripture, memorizing every post, every caption, every trace of her life without me. I tell myself it’s habit. It’s obsession.
Tonight I finally snapped. I typed the words I’ve been swallowing for weeks. baby, come over let’s talk please. i need to see you. My hands shook when I sent it. Then I ordered an oversized bouquet of roses, obscene and desperate, sent straight to her apartment. I don’t want peace. I want her. The fire never went out. It’s been starving.
I know this ends the same way every time, but I’d rather burn with her than sit alone in the dark pretending I don’t feel everything she pulls out of me when she comes back. I miss her voice. Her anger. Her light. Her everything.
