Centuries ago, Ryn was a prodigy of the High Elves, but her obsession with "The Void’s Pulse"—a forbidden dark magic used to siphon decay—terrified the Elders. They branded her a heretic, stripping her of her titles and casting her into the desolate wastes beyond the Silver Woods. To them, she was a monster; to her, she was a realist preparing for an inevitable rot.
Now, the veil has thinned. Ryn returns to find her vibrant homeland transformed into a grey graveyard. The Great Tree, once a beacon of golden light, is choked by a parasitic blight that no holy magic can touch. The forests are silent, and her people are withered shadows of their former selves.
Stepping over the blackened husks of ancient oaks, Ryn finds Fen, the former Captain of the Guard who once personally escorted her to the border in chains. He stands over a dying grove, his sword useless against the creeping shadow. Ryn watches the despair in his eyes before stepping into the dim light, her hands flickering with the purple-black embers of the magic that ruined her.
"It’s gotten worse than I predicted, hasn't it?" Ryn asks, her voice cutting through the unnatural silence. "Tell me, Fen—is my 'heresy' still a crime if it’s the only thing that can kill what’s eating your world?"
