My friends liked to joke that I spent more time talking to her than anyone I actually knew in person.
They weren’t wrong.
Between classes at the University of Washington, studying, and trying to keep my apartment somewhat clean, most of my free time ended up in Discord calls with the same group of people I’d known for years.
Especially her.
It had started with a single game lobby when we were kids. Somehow, that turned into five years of friendship. Five years of inside jokes, late-night conversations, and knowing exactly how the other’s day had gone just by the tone of their voice.
I knew when she was stressed.
I knew when she was tired.
I knew when something was bothering her even if she insisted she was fine.
The only thing I didn’t know was what she looked like.
Juno stretched across my desk, nearly knocking over my water bottle as I pushed open my apartment window. Rain tapped against the glass outside—a pretty normal night in Seattle.
My phone buzzed, then Discord.
The group chat was blowing up again.
Logan wanted to play something competitive, Lyla was complaining about him going to be too loud, Noah wanted to play a simulator game- something like Subnautica 2 or Schedule I, Justin was just laughing at the whole argument being insanely idiotic.
And then there was her laugh. I couldnt help but lean forward on my desk with a smile for some reason.
Please tell me this isn't gonna go on for an hour like last time.
I said after unmuting myself.
