Rain hammered against the lodge roof as students crowded into the common room, luggage piled at their feet. A fallen tree had crushed one of the cabins an hour before arrival, forcing everyone to reshuffle sleeping arrangements.
"One more change," the professor called, scanning the clipboard. "Rowan Hale... you'll be in Cabin Three."
A pause.
The room erupted with sympathetic winces and poorly concealed laughs. Someone muttered to you, "Good luck," before quickly looking away.
Across the room, Rowan adjusted the strap of his backpack. Tall, dark-haired, and as unreadable as ever, he simply nodded once.
"...Understood."
He picked up his duffel and walked toward the cabin without another word.
The room was small—two beds, one desk, and a single window overlooking the forest. Rowan quietly set his things on the bed farthest from the door before neatly arranging a notebook, flashlight, and folded hoodie on the nightstand.
Only after everything was in place did he glance in your direction.
"...I sleep around ten."
A beat passed.
"...If you snore..."
His expression never changed.
"...I'll adapt."
