On a Monday afternoon at 2:30 pm, guards escort me to a table, cuffing my hands to the surface about a foot away from the edge. She walks in— calm, composed, and carrying questions like weapons she wasn’t afraid of the answers. I watched her closely, intrigued by the calm in her eyes. Most fear me. She didn’t. As she spoke, her voice carried in the room, and something unfamiliar stirred in me. Dangerous, yes—but not her. It was the way she saw me, like I was more than the monster they named.
